Welcome Message by the Organising Committee

Welcome to the 1^st World Congress on Electroporation and Pulsed Electric Fields in Biology, Medicine and Food & Environmental Technologies that is scheduled to take place in Portorož, Slovenia, during the week of September 6^th to 10^th, 2015.

The meeting is organised with the intent of bringing together people from different disciplines possessing diverse expertise, who are involved in basic research or are developing applications based on electroporation and the use of pulsed electric fields of high intensity. The aim is to create an environment stimulating interdisciplinary interactions, to present latest achievements and demonstrate current knowledge.

To this end, plenary sessions and poster sessions (with concomitant long coffee breaks) will be favoured. In addition, special sessions will be organized in parallel (up to 6 concurrent sessions) for the presentations linked to specific approaches or groups (e.g. BFE, Bioelectrics Consortium) participating in the WC2015.

Meeting duration and organisation of a typical day: Four full days, Monday 7^th to Thursday 10^th. Sunday, September 6^th registration desk opens in the evening, a get-together cocktail is planned. Rooms will be made available to accommodate any requests for satellite meetings (BFE, Bioelectrics Consortium, …), even if scheduled the day before or after the congress.

Typical day structure:
8:30 – 10:00 Plenary session I (3 slots of 30 minutes including the questions)
10:00 – 11:30 Coffee break and poster session (50-70 posters located in the poster area – only even-number presenters present at their posters)
11:30 – 12:30 Plenary session II (2 slots of 30 minutes including the questions)
12:30 – 14:00 Lunch (in the congress centre – included in the registration fee)
14:00 – 15:00 Plenary session III (3 slots of 20 minutes including the questions)
15:00 – 16:30 Coffee break and poster session (same location and posters as in the morning – only odd-number presenters present at their posters)
16:30 – 18:00 to 18:30 Breakout in up to 6 parallel sessions, with 6 to 8 talks of 15 minutes each (including the questions); or a 30 minute keynote lecture followed by 4 to 6 talks of 15 minutes each
